Barrie Explosion Incident: Police Seek Community Cooperation
Barrie police are investigating an incident where a car exploded in a parking lot, accompanied by the discovery of an improvised explosive device (IED) nearby early Wednesday. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the incident prompted the evacuation of a nearby apartment complex. Residents were relocated to city transit buses, and those in the surrounding area were advised to shelter in place.
The car and the IED were found on Anne Street, near Edgehill Drive. Police suspect the IED was placed near the car's gas tank, and a second device may have been attached. The explosive disposal unit safely detonated the IED in a controlled explosion. Barrie Police emphasized the ongoing investigation and encouraged the community's cooperation, urging anyone with relevant information or footage to come forward. After ensuring the area's safety, roads were reopened in the evening.
